IMHO, Advaitham is the most underappreciated film from the Priyadarshan-Mohanlal friendship. Tell me another actor, who at his peak, would pick a role where's he's shown stealing from God! It's also ironic to fit this role into a list like this because advaitham like the title suggests is beyond dichotomy or beyond good or evil.
"Here is my next movie announced today with #Roshann under prestigious Banners #Vyjayanthi movies and #Swapna cinema. Thanks to #Swapna Dutt the person who always believed my script," Pradeep Advaitham tweeted on Sunday. Going by the intriguing poster released by the team, Roshann's next is a period film set in Hyderabad. A few words in the backdrop of the poster read 'Troops march into Hyderabad' in what appears like a film set between the 1940s and 70s. Will it be based on the Razaqar movement? One may not know yet.
Anuradha has left out the movie,Vettam.Atleast two songs of that film ,Mazhathullikal &Oru Kathilola are thefts.I dunno the original.Either of you should attempt an article,Priyadarsan & the Art of Stealing.Like the producers & directors of yore,he asks his composers to steal.Ousepachan & Beny-Ignatius have acknowledged this. When noone is ready to steal,MG Sreekumar does it for him(Kancheevaram, for example).Three movies mentioned by Anuradha here have been directed by him:Advaitham,Thenmavin Kombathu & Megham.
When I wrote this,I saw there was a movie called Ghazal (1964)in hindi.Malayalam too had a movie Ghazal(1993),a box office disaster.Music director was Bombay Ravi& two songs became popular.1.Isal Thenkanam 2.Sangeethame ninte Divyasamrajyathil(sung by Mini Anand, where is she now?).I strongly feel Isal Thenkanam has an original!
If you read the full story that you said he has copied from, Its totally varies in story and the characters he has portrayed in the film(other than remake movies). So we cannot say that he has copied the whole movie. may be he has taken the thread from other movies. Also in those times nobody might have watched a french or marathi movie for entertainment. So we can appreciate his efforts to bring all super hits to all of us in most enjoyable manner
Chitram (1988), Mukunthetta Sumitra Vilikkunnu (1988),and Vellanakalude Naadu (1988) are some of the Priyan masterpieces in Malayalam cinemas golden period..And he was one of the important contributors to that period!!For us who had grown up seeing those movies, the Priyan plagiarism in Hindi was a cruel betrayal..And I hope he regains his skill and earthiness back in kanchivaram
I think the only original story he had in malayalam was Mithunam. That is by, I think, Srinivasan. As a craftsman he is exceptional. Unlike other remakers, he takes only the thread, rest all are his ideas.I like allmost all of his movies.
